Privacy Policy
Effective 8 September 2026
This policy explains what Describe Video AI collects when you use Describe Video AI, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the videos you upload as well as your account and usage data.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Describe Video AI (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about anything privacy-related at support@describevideoai.com.
2. What we collect
Account data. You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address, and the stable account identifier Google issues for you. We never receive or store your Google password.
Videos and prompts you submit. The video file you upload, the question you ask about it, and the analysis we generate in response. Videos may contain the voices, faces, and words of other people — see “Content about other people” below.
Payment data. Purchases are handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and the credits to grant. We never see or store your full card number.
Usage and device data. Pages viewed, actions taken (uploads started, analyses completed, errors encountered), approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and referring website.
Support messages. Anything you send us through the feedback form, including an email address if you choose to provide one.
3. How your video is processed
This is the part most people want to understand, so we will be specific. When you upload a video:
- The file is uploaded directly to our processing service and stored there while the job runs.
- We extract still frames from the video and extract its audio track.
- Those frames are sent to OpenAI for visual analysis, and the audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription.
- The visual analysis, the transcript, and your question are combined into a final answer, which is stored against your account so you can return to it.
Your video content therefore leaves our systems and is processed by OpenAI as part of delivering the service. We do not use your videos, prompts, or results to train our own models.
4. Why we are allowed to use it
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (to run the analysis you requested, manage your account, and take payment); our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, understand how it is used, and improve it); your consent (for optional analytics cookies and any marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time); and compliance with legal obligations (such as keeping tax records).
5. How long we keep things
Uploaded video files are retained on our processing storage after the analysis completes. We are working toward automatic deletion of source video shortly after processing; until that is in place, you can ask us to delete a specific upload at any time and we will action it.
Analyses, prompts, and job history are kept until you delete them or ask us to close your account.
Account and billing records are kept for as long as your account is open, and afterwards only as long as needed for legal, tax, and accounting purposes.
Analytics data is retained on a rolling basis by our analytics providers according to their standard retention periods.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers, including OpenAI, are based in the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
8. Content about other people
If your video contains other identifiable people — a recorded meeting, a call, a performance — you are responsible for having the right to upload it and to have it analysed. Please do not upload recordings of people who have not agreed to be recorded, and check the rules that apply where you and they are located, since some places require everyone’s consent.
9. Email we send you
We send service email where it is necessary to run your account — for example receipts or important changes to the service. You cannot opt out of these while you have an account.
We may also send occasional product email, such as a reminder when you have run out of credits. Every such message includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them immediately without affecting your account. Where local law requires your prior consent for this kind of message, we will ask for it first rather than assume it.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent you previously gave. If you are in California, you also have the right to know what we collect and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined.
To exercise any of these, email support@describevideoai.com. We will respond within the time limit that applies to you, and at the latest within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA and are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
12. Security
We protect your account with signed sessions, CSRF protection, rate limiting, and server-side session revocation, and we transmit data over encrypted connections. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps proportionate to the risk.
13. Children
Describe Video AI is not intended for children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, or older if that is the minimum age of digital consent where you live.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where the change significantly affects you, tell you directly. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
15. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of Belgium, without affecting any mandatory data protection rights you have where you live.
